Melanie C started her solo career in 1998 and since then has sold over 10 million records and racked up nine Top 30 hit singles,two of which were number 1 hits. This site follows the highlights of Melanie's career.


Nov 1998 - Melanie C releases her first single outside the Spice Girls, ''When You're Gone'' with Bryan Adams.The song would become a Top 10 hit going to # 3 in the UK. The single sold over 600,000 copies in the UK alone and spent nine weeks in the UK Top 10.

Aug 1999 - Mel C kicks off a 16 date world tour. Mel's live performances would her great  critical success as a live performer.

Sept 1999 - Mel C releases her debut single as a solo artist ''Goin' Down''. The song would become her second Top 10 hit outside the Spice Girls going to # 4 in the UK charts. The single would go on to sell around 100,000 copies in the UK alone.

Oct 1999 - Mel releases her debut solo album ''Northern Star''. The album debuts at # 10 in the UK charts but would peak at #4. The album would become a huge success selling around 900,000 copies in the UK and 3 million copies worldwide.

Nov 1999 - Mel releases the single ''Northern Star''  which becomes at Top 10 hit at # 4 in the UK. The single would become an even bigger hit then ''Goin' Down'' selling close to 200,000 copies in the UK alone.

Mar  2000 - Mel releases her single ''Never Be The Same Again'' which would become her first #1 hit as a solo singer. The song would sell a massive 150,000 copies in its first week and would go on to sell over 400,000 copies in the UK and 1 million worldwide.

Aug 2000 - Mel kicks of 38 date European Tour. Some of the dates end up getting cancelled or rescheduled. August would also see the release of Mel's single ''I Turn To You''. The song would become Mel's second #1 hit as a solo singer selling 120,000 copies in its first week and over 300,000 in total in the UK. The song also would become a #1 hit in the USA on the dance charts and becomes a massive club hit.

Nov 2000 - Mel releases the last single off the ''Northern Star'' album,''If That Were Me''. The song would become a Top 20 hit in the UK going to #18 selling over 30,000 copies in its chart run.

Jan  2001 : Mel is on tour  again with a 59 date worldtour. However with her last tour some of the dates would get cancelled or rescheduled. Despite this the tour is a success.

 


 


Feb 2003 - After taking a well deserved break Melanie C is back with her single ''Here It Comes Again'' which is the first to be released from the album ''Reason''. The single would become Mel's seventh hit single and her sixth to reach the Top 10 debuting at # 7 on the UK charts. The single would go on to sell around 50,000 copies in the UK.Sales worldwide would be over 500,000 copies as the song would become a Top 20 hit on the World Top 100 singles chart.

Mar 2003 - Mel releases  her second album ''Reason'' which becomes a Top 10 hit in the UK debuting at #5. The album would go Gold in the UK selling around 100,000 copies and would go on to sell 1.5 million copies worldwide.

April 2003 - Mel C is already into her 2003 REASON Tour.

June 2003 - Mel releases the single ''On The Horizon'' which becomes her eighth hit single becoming a Top 20 hit at #14.

Aug 2003 - Mel releases the song ''Let's Love'' as a single in Japan. The song was featured in a car advert on Japanese TV. 

Nov 2003 - Mel releases her last single from the ''Reason'' album ''Melt/Yeh Yeh Yeh''. The single would become Mel's ninth hit single as a solo artist. The single became a Top 30 hit going to #27.

Dec 2003 - Melanie C's record sales stand at around 10 million records(albums & singles) sold worldwide.

Mar 2004 - Melanie C leaves Virgin Records and starts her own record company ''Red Girl Records''.

June 2004 - Mel kicks off her  Barfly tour.During the tour the singer previews six new songs to be featured on her upcoming third album.
